A dainty little teacup for the perfect spot of tea, or a shot of whisky.
Each teacup starts as a lump of moist black porcelain that is shaped on the potter's wheel. Once the clay stiffens, the narrow foot is trimmed, the side are darted, the lip is cut and pitched, and then a handle added. Colored slip dots and lines were applied with a metal-tipped slip trailer, wrapping the piece in pattern that is both tactile and beautiful. The pattern of this particular teacup is based on a traditional Icelandic pattern known as the flower of life.
The teacup is glaze fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. Glazes are lead free and food safe. It is dishwasher safe but I always suggest hand-washing to protect delicate edges.
Teacups measure ~3.5 inches tall x 5 inches wide x 3.75 inches deep.
