Preparations

October 21, 2024 Jenni Brant

Aerial view of Stöðvarfjördu, a small village that is home to roughly 200 permanent residents in the eastern fjords of Iceland.

Above = Where myself and my ceramic studio practice are headed for all of November 2024.

The reasons for going on this creative adventure are difficult to outline in a succinct blog post and honestly, too numerous to explain in any way that would make sense to most logical people.

At the heart of it, I’ve wanted to immerse myself in creating art in Iceland since I first visited in July 2019. This is a place that haunts me and impacts how I move through the world daily. I decided after Eric passed in 2020, that I owed it to us and to our Burro Branch Studios venture to pursue an artist residency in Iceland at some point. So after a previously failed application to a different program a couple of years ago, lots more research, honing a new residency request to the Fish Factory-Creative Centre, saving up funds, and leaning on supportive folks in my life, here we go.
